Module 3: Defining your topic and searching databases

Accessing databases

Now that you understand why we use databases and the planning involved when looking for journal articles, lets do a search using an example from the psychology.

Choosing a database

UNSW Library has access to hundreds of databases on different topics and covering different journals. If you are not sure where to start, try the databases list from the Psychology subject guide. We will use the database PsycINFO for this example. The PsycINFO database indexes over 1,900 psychology and related journals and reports.

Accessing a database

Use Sirius to access any UNSW Library database. Sirius is the gateway to UNSW Library electronic resources (databases, e-journals, e-books, subject guides etc.).
